METROLOGY LABORATORY
Dimensional accuracy tolerancing
Contact and Non-contact type precision measurement facility
Material hardness testing
Product inspection and geometric measurement
The metrology laboratory at BITS Pilani, Pilani campus is an advanced Industry 4.0 compliant research laboratory for quality assessment.
The facilities consist of contact-based and computer vision-based dimension measuring instruments further making it suitable for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing concepts.
Facilities
A device that measures the geometry of physical objects by sensing discrete points on the surface of the object with a probe. Various types of probes are used in CMMs, including mechanical, optical, laser, and white light. Depending on the machine, the probe position may be manually controlled by an operator or it may be computer controlled.
Roundness tester can measure a wide variety of workpieces. It incorporates flexible data analysis software and offers high functionality including detector to prevent damaging collisions , high-precision power column unit to evaluate straightness of cylindrical feature.
Contour tracing instrument to measure and analyze the contours, with software that offers total support for measurement system control, surface roughness analysis, contour analysis, contour tolerancing and inspection report creation.
Surface Roughness
Quickly and accurately determine the surface texture or surface roughness of a material. Displays the measured roughness depth and the mean roughness value in micron scale.
Non Contact Instruments
Non-contact measurement is faster than contact measurement, especially for applications with high sampling rates. It can also measure more points at one time and without putting pressure on the object.
Excellent accuracy of (1.1+0.6L/600)µm with 0.1µm/0.5µm resolution/repeatability.• Perpendicularity (frontal) of 5µm and straightness of 4µm.• Pneumatic full/semi-floating system
